Date of Next Meeting The next meeting of this group will be on Thursday 8th June, 2pm at the Loch Centre in Tranent. UpdateThis group has been working hard with ELC to improve their surrounding area to create a wonderful space they can enjoy during the lockdown and for years to come.
The main folks involved were James Veitch, Andy McCann, Keith Malcolm and Ian Hall along with some of the other tenants that have been adding to it too for the past 2/3 months. The back of the area is now grassed, instead of stones and fences; they have planters, flowers, drying areas and benches. New fencing has been installed to help keep the back area more private/secure and it looks really good too. The latest achievement is the installation of the greenhouse, which members of the group will be delighted with. The group are growing tatties in the front, whilst waiting for work to be done, however have decided to continue to grow vegetables which they share with their neighbours. There is some work still to be done, however the group have worked extremely hard to achieve such a greatly improved area for their local community. Below are some of the pictures of the area. Well done to everyone involved! Most Recent Minutes |
The Harkness Tenants and Residents Association is going from strength to strength with Isobel and Ann working hard with the group and ELC to address the issues raised by the local community.
The group are now in their 2nd year with an AGM to be held soon...….
Issues raised by the local community:
Monoblocking - still to be cleaned
School Children congregating – there are some young people gathering at the gable end. This is causing some problems. There are also people jumping over the fence into the back garden and causing grief to tenants, again particularly at the gable end. This has been reported on many occasions and K Black and the Antisocial Behaviour Team and Police are working together to address the issue.
- The group wondered about CCTV in the back garden?
- Can the direction of the camera be changed to look at Harkness Crescent?
- Can the gates be locked – 1 x key to lock all of the gates?
The above issues are being explored further by ELC staff. The group also would like to visit the contact centre at Macmerry in the future.......
Everyone agreed they really liked living in Harkness Crescent, where it was felt that there is a very supportive community spirit from the local tenants. ELTRP are supporting the group to take their issues forward where ELC are also being supportive and working together in finding ways to address the current issues.
